Changing the column width

By default, the column width in the table is set to the same for all columns, with the table occupying the entire space between the page margins. In order to change the width of the column of the table, you need to snag across the border between the columns and move it in the desired direction. If the cell was moved to the border of the column, the width of that cell will only be changed.

You can also change the width of a column using a horizontal measuring ruler, grabbing the border of the column on the ruler and moving it in the desired direction. The width of the column can also be changed via the Properties menu from the Work with Tables tab - Layout, subsection

Column (English Column ) , setting the exact width of the column (English < strong> Width of Column) .

Resizing a cell

You can resize a particular cell using the Properties menu from the Work with Tables tab - Layout tab, the Cell tab, by setting the exact width of the column. In this dialog box, you can change the cell size and align the text inside the cell vertically. Selecting the Parameters command here, you can set the zero dimension inside the cell, i.e. determine at what distance the text from the cell boundary will be located.

If the Switch text is selected, then when you type long text, the cell will increase in height, rather than expand horizontally. If you select the Write text check box, when typing long text, the font size will decrease visibly, so that it fits within the width of the cell. The actual font size will not change in this case.

Changing Table Parameters

In the Properties menu from the Work with Tables tab - Layout, Inserts tab, you can determine the exact size of the table (in centimeters or percentages), as well as the horizontal alignment and wrapping around the table.

When you select the Options button, the Table Options dialog box opens, where you can change the default cell fields of the table, the intervals between cells, and set or cancel the Auto-fit content by content condition (while enlarging the size of the column when typing long text). The auto-selection mode applies to the whole table (even if it was turned on or off for one cell).

In the word processor Word , there is another way to manage auto-fit modes. Place the cursor in the table area and in the tab Work with tables - Layout in the Cell size group, click on the drop-down menu of the Auto-fit button. In the menu that opens, the program offers the following options:

• auto-matching by content - the total width of the table is considered unchanged and equal to the width of the printed page set field;

• Auto-fit to the width of the window - the total width of the table is the value of the variable, depending on the current viewing parameters, which corresponds to the development of web pages;

• Auto-fit is automatically turned off if you fix the width of any table element. The same will happen if you select Auto Fit - Fixed Column Width from the menu.

Joining and Splitting Table Cells

You can merge several cells (horizontally or vertically) into one by selecting them and selecting the command Merge Cells (English Merge Cells) from the Combine group from the Work tab with tables - Layout.

You can split a cell into several equal cells by placing the cursor in this cell and selecting the "Split cells" command from the Unification group on the Work with tables tab - Layout. The program will ask a question about the parameters of the partition.
