Chapter 2. Cloud computing and virtualization
Using cloud computing and virtualization technology, remote employees gain access to enterprise applications by installing them on mobile devices. A corporate Desktop on a mobile device allows a remote employee to perform the same production tasks that he/she solves on a stationary workstation.
The term cloud It is used as a metaphor based on the Internet image on a computer network scheme, or as an image of a complex infrastructure behind which all the technical details are hidden. Its use is due to the fact that on the information network schemes the enterprise's output to the Internet is depicted as a cloud (Figure 2.1).
The cloud also displays the remote interaction of the enterprise with the data center.

2.1. The concept of cloud computing
Cloud computing (cloud computing) - is an information processing technology that provides network access on demand to common configurable network and computing resources (data networks, servers , data warehouses, applications and services).
The main elements of such information processing technology in this context are virtualization, management of IT infrastructure and services (order, support, billing).
Cloud computing is characterized by the following:
- the information of the enterprise is permanently stored on external servers, access to which is carried out via the Internet or other information network, and is temporarily cached on the client side, for example, on personal computers (PCs)
- a large number of servers are combined into one computational mechanism;
- the resources of one server are divided into virtual machines with applications installed on them, and many users can work with them simultaneously
- the presence of a centralized data storage and applications, centralized management and administration of them;
- providing computing resources to thousands or even millions of users subscribed to services.
Cloud technologies allow the use of computing facilities, equipment, disk space, applications and information networks located outside the enterprise. At the same time, users should not care about the infrastructure, including the operating system (OS) and the software they are working with, and the enterprise does not need to create a physical IT structure.
To this technology, the term "IT as a service" is applicable; (IT as a Service, ITaaS). The virtual IT infrastructure costs the enterprise 2-3 times cheaper than the maintenance of its own traditional IT service. Without it, the average degree of useful use of server resources in organizations varies from 5 to 40%, i.e. idle over 60% of the available computing power.
The world's leading software developers are creating software for cloud computing. So, the corporation Microsoft for transition to cloud services developed a specialized software called Windows Server AppFabric. This set of integrated high-performance services makes it easy to create applications and manage those applications that work simultaneously on the user's server and in the cloud. And the software, formerly called NET Services, combines hosting and cache technologies.
Cloud Services Brokerage is a service provided by a third party acting on behalf of their customer. They implement various programs or resources that help to implement cloud services, in particular, legal services that ensure compliance with the law, etc.
Small businesses and start-up companies mostly use cloud computing to get computing power on a call (demand). Such Internet services include, for example, Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) and "MySklad", useful for online stores and small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs), etc. However, such solutions bring maximum benefit to large and medium-sized businesses . So, using the online service Our cloud CROC specialists implement and control all business processes of the enterprise, from providing physical security to meeting the requirements of regulatory bodies. Our cloud Is a tool in which the base of applied solutions is gradually being formed, all infrastructure services of the company and even cloud PCs are located.
The advantages of cloud computing include high standardization and automation of all IT processes, measurability of IT resources, savings on licenses, maintenance, technical personnel. They allow you to separate through virtualization leased hardware, applications and information platform from the physical environment. Their implementation is related to the solution of both technical and organizational and legal issues. The main tasks solved with the help of these calculations include security, bandwidth maintenance and management implementation. And their drawback lies in the user's dependence on the external information infrastructure that limits his independence.
