Document display modes in the program window

Getting started on the text of the document, you must select the most appropriate mode of operation. Word offers five modes of displaying documents. Switching

Document Type Buttons

Fig. 5.5. Document view buttons

The mode is performed on the View tab or by five buttons near the bottom horizontal scrollbar (Figure 5.5).

Page layout. In this mode, the type of the document when typing matches the type of further publication. Working on the text, you can imagine how the document will look when printing. As a rule, they prefer to deal with the document in this mode. The exception is the processing of large documents on low-power technology.

Read mode. Used to check or read text documents that are presented in this mode in the book version.

Web document . The mode is used for registration of electronic documents intended for submission on the Internet.

Structure . The mode displays a document with the selection of its structure: paragraphs and headings of different levels. It is useful at the stage of final editing of large and complex documents - it is convenient to move sections, chapters, subordinate them to another level.

Normal mode: The mode represents only the content of a document with font and paragraph formatting elements, but not pages. The page layout is simplified, but text input and other operations with large documents on low-performance computers are much faster, Word is less likely to "hang."

Specifies the page settings. Before proceeding directly to entering text, it is useful to predefine the document settings common to this document. The Page Layout group Page Setup (Figure 5.6) allows you to assign the borders of the page margins and the printed area within which the text will be placed, to determine the orientation: portrait or landscape. Size allows you to set the pages to a format other than the standard A4. On the Paper Source tab, you can click -

Set and edit text

The following rules should be observed in the text.

• The text is typed from the keyboard, not tracing the end of the line, because the program automatically performs a line break and sets the transfer character.

• There is only one space between words in a sentence. Spaces are not placed at the beginning of the paragraph.

• Punctuation marks are placed without a space after the word, parentheses and quotes - without spaces on both sides of the word, dashes are written in spaces, hyphens - without a space.

• The Insert key switches two text input and edit modes: replacements mode and insert mode. In replace mode, text fragments replace the edited text character by character i.e. each new text symbol replaces one character of the old one. In the insert mode, the old text does not change, and the new symbol is inserted into it, starting from the cursor location, expanding the previous text. Typically, the insert mode is used, except when working with standard forms in which you need to edit the same pieces of content.

• To end a text paragraph, press Enter. To place a text block into paragraphs, place the cursor at the end of the first paragraph and press Enter.

• It is not recommended to insert empty paragraphs in a document, since the paragraph mark & quot; carries also the font format, if you change the parameters of which the pieces of text will then move, then move apart.

• The two paragraphs of the text are joined into one by placing the cursor at the end of the first paragraph and pressing the Del.

• The keys Ctrl + Shift + Space insert the so-called non-breaking space. Words separated by an indissoluble space look stand-alone, but Word recognizes them as a single hitch, without breaking and not transferring individual words to the next line. This is necessary when entering some combinations of words, abbreviations, numbers: Windows °, Olympics ° 2014, Pandakov ° KG, ХХI ° century, Fig. 3, tables, § ° 3, No. 17, 220 ° В, 100 ° kg.

• The Shift + Enter keys perform a so-called soft line feed. In this case, the line is interrupted before approaching the boundary of the printed area, but the new paragraph does not begin. This is used, for example, when stuffing caps business letters.

To move the cursor along the letters and lines of the document text, use the arrow keys to move through the screen text - PageUp and PageDown, keys to scroll through the text - the scroll bar.

The keyboard shortcut allows you to not use the mouse and navigate the text by jumping horizontally from word to word by pressing the Ctrl key and moving the cursor left or right and from paragraph to paragraph by pressing Ctrl and the arrow keys; up and down.

Direct input of text from the keyboard does not cause any special complications, you just have to be careful and type the characters in the correct order. Each character in Word has its own code, which it is represented in electronic documents.

When editing (making) documents, it is recommended to work in the mode of displaying non-printable characters. The so-called non-printable characters are visible on the monitor screen only when they are displayed on the screen using the Nonprinting characters button on the Main tab. Symbols and values for nonprinting characters are shown in Table. 5.1.

Word program remembers the actions performed with the document and provides an opportunity to refuse them or the subsequent return to them. You can undo the action by clicking Cancel or by pressing Ctrl + Z. The action is returned in the same place click Revert.
