Page margins define indents from the borders of a sheet of paper when printing. You can define page margins by clicking the Fields button in the Page Setup category on the Page Layout tab. The list shows different types of fields. It is especially useful to pay attention to the Last custom value line. When the Custom Fields row is selected, the Page Setup dialog box opens on the Fields tab. The Top field (English Thor ) allows you to set the distance between the top of the page and the top border of the top line of the text. The Lower field (English Bottom ) allows you to set the distance between the bottom of the page and the bottom of the bottom line of the text.
In the Pages settings category, you can change the field parameters in the document by selecting one of the suggested options from the list (Normal, Mirror fields, 2 pages per sheet, Brochure). The Mirror Fields switch determines the page settings when printing on both sides of a sheet. The page margins on the page will be mirrored.
The Left field (English Left ) allows you to specify the distance between the left edge of the page and the left edge of the text lines without padding left. This parameter is used when printing on one side of a sheet. If the Mirror fields switch is selected (English Muror Margins) , the name of this zero will change to Inside Inside ) . The Right field (English Right ) allows you to specify the distance between the right edge of the page and the right edge of the text lines without padding to the right. This parameter is also used when printing on one side of a sheet. If the Mirrored fields check box is selected, the name of this field will change to Outside ( Outside ) .
The Inside field allows you to specify the distance between the inner edges of the page and the lines of text without indents. This option is used when printing on both sides of a sheet. If the Mirror fields switch is cleared, the name of this field is changed to Left. The Outside field allows you to specify the distance between the outer edges of the page and lines of text without indenting to the right. This setting is also used when printing on both sides of a sheet. If the Mirror fields switch is cleared, the name of this field changes to Right.
If the Brochure option is selected in the Pages category, the page orientation automatically changes to Landscape.
The Binding field (English Gutter ) allows you to set the size of the binding field. This extra distance is added to the left edge of the page margin if the Mirrored Fields switch is cleared, or to the inner edge of the page zero if the Mirror Zero switch is set.
You can also set page margins using vertical and horizontal measuring rulers. To do this, place the mouse pointer over the dividing line of the field on the measuring rulers and move it in the desired direction. When using the measuring ruler, you can set the numerical value of the page margins by moving the border of the field with the Alt key pressed.
To configure units for page parameters, you must set the appropriate options in the menu: File - Options - Advanced, category Screen - Unit of measure.
If you reduce the top and bottom margins, consider the minimum page margins defined for the installed printer. It should also be remembered that by default the page settings apply to the entire document, if you need to change these parameters within the same document, you must divide it into sections.
The Normal.dotx document template defines a set of text in one column. If you need to type text in multiple columns, click the Columns button in the Page Setup category on the Page Layout tab. A list opens, from which you can select the number of columns in the document. Selecting the Other Columns menu bar opens the Columns dialog box, where you can change the number of columns, the type of column splitting, the width and the span of the columns. If you select the type of splitting the columns: two, three, left or right, you can set the Separator switch. In this case, between the columns will appear a dividing line that improves the appearance of the text.
If you want to change the format of columns of text only within a fragment, you need to divide the text into sections, go to the desired section and set the required number of columns in it. You can select the desired fragment and execute the Column command, and in the Apply category, select the To highlighted text option. It is convenient to perform multi-column breakdown of text using tables (see section 11.9).
