Splitting text into pages

Soft and hard page borders

If the text size exceeds the page size when typing, the program automatically sets the end of the page character, i.e. automatically breaks the text into pages. In the process of editing text, when you add or remove fragments, the text is re-parsed. The markers of page ends, automatically affixed by the program (they are also called soft borders), have the appearance of a dotted line. You can not remove these soft borders.

If, regardless of the size of the typed text, you need to start the next paragraph from the new page, insert markers for the start of a new page, markers of the hard border of the page. To add hard boundaries to the text, you need to position the cursor at the desired location and select the Break command ( Break ) from the Page Setup group of the Page layout tab. In the Page breaks that appears, select the Page (English Page Break) line. After performing the hard boundary setting operation In the text appear markers in the form of a double dotted line. Hard boundaries can be deleted as plain text by highlighting and clicking Delete.

Splitting the text into pages also occurs when the characteristic of paragraph C of a new page is selected (paragraph section of the Paragraph - Position on the page). In this paragraph, the service symbol C of the new page is set in the paragraph, it is located in the left field of the document and is displayed as a small black rectangle. You can remove it by removing this characteristic from the paragraph.

In the same menu are very useful options Line Numbers and Hyphenation, which allow you to specify automatic hyphenation settings or handoff assignments in manual mode by the user himself.

Page Numbering

When you split text on a page, there is no automatic page numbering. To enumerate them, you must select the Page Number command from the Insert tab. In the drop-down list, you can select the position of the page number (Top, Bottom, Pa fields, Current position), and then the orientation of the number itself (the list appears when you hover the mouse on the right arrow next to each menu line). By selecting the page number format string, you can select the formatting option for page numbering characters (English Number Format) , and the number from which the numbering will begin (English Start at) .

The page numbering symbols appear in the headers and footers area, because they are essentially header and footer elements and therefore are not visible in the Draft view. In order to see page numbers, you need to set the layout mode of the Page Layout document. To delete page numbers, select Delete page numbers. You can also delete page numbers from the header area manually.

Headers and footers

Header and footer - is a kind of text formatting for displaying information that repeats on each page. This text may appear above the main text (in the top field, the Header - English header ) or below it (in the bottom field, Footer - English <

Depending on the location of the headers, the following types are distinguished:

• Upper;

• Lower;

• on even pages;

• on odd pages;

• on the first page of the document;

• on all other pages.

In order to create a footer in a document, click the Header or Footer button in the Header and Footer group on the Insert tab. This opens a list of form headers, from which you can select the desired one. After the header type is selected, a new tab works with the header and footer on the ribbon. To open a previously created footer, double-click in the footer area, or click the Header or Footer buttons, and then click Edit Header and Footer. The Header and Footer group is used to change the form of the footer. The Insert group is used to add various objects (fields, pictures, express blocks) to the footer. The Transitions group is used to move from one footer to another. Note that the Back and Next buttons are only active when there are headers and footers in the document that are different from the Header and Footer. The Parameters group is used to create special header and footer types, for example, page headers, even and odd pages.

By default, you can create a header and footer in the document. In order for the program to create other types of headers and footers, you must set the appropriate switches in the Parameters group. The transition between the created headers and footers is done with the Back and Next entries from the Transitions group.

The Position group determines the position of the footer on the page. From Edge to Header (English From Edge), you can specify the distance from the edge of the page to the corresponding header ( Header and Footer) . In the Page Setup dialog box, the Paper Source tab actually repeats the settings made earlier in the tape groups. In the category Distinguish headers and footers, the appropriate switches are selected: Even and odd pages, First page. In the Edge category, from the edge (English From ), you can set the size of the header area. The header area starts from the edge of the paper and is located in the document margin area at the distance specified in this dialog.

When you increase the text in the header area, the page margins automatically increase. If you want to prevent the increase of page margins, you must put a minus sign (-) on the Fields tab before the value of the top and bottom fields, in this case the header text will be superimposed on the main text.
