Working with Fonts

In order to install any new (or additional to the already existing) font, you need to implement a certain sequence of actions.

1. Find the desired font (this can be done simply through the search engine).

For reference

Some of the most common types of fonts are:

• .fnt - Font is a normal font file Windows;

• .fon - Font - a bitmap font with a fixed size;

• .otf - Open Type Font is an open type font file;

• .ttf - True Type Font - font TrueType;

• .ttc - True Type Collection is an extension of the TrueType, format including tables that allow in one font font file ) hold multiple TrueType fonts.

Font files can have such formats;

.acfm - Adobe Composite Font Metrics is a font measurement file Adobe Composite ;

• .amfm - Adobe Multiple Font Metrics is a font measurement file Adobe Multiple ;

• .afm - Adobe Font Metrics - contains information about the metric;

• .bdf - Bitmap Distribution Format - the font ASCII,

2. If the installed font was in the form of an archive, you need to unzip it.

3. You can install the font by opening the Fonts folder (the Start button - Control Panel - Fonts) and simply copying the desired font into this folder. The copied font will be installed automatically.

To delete a font, open the font folder (this can be done in the C: WINDOWSFonts directory), select the desired font and click Delete.

When working with fonts, remember that if you install a new font on your computer and use it in a document, then on another computer this document will be displayed correctly only if the same font is installed on it. Otherwise, the text written in this font will be displayed in the default font as an automatic replacement (usually Calibri or Times New Roman) . In Microsoft Word's Microsoft program, you can also embed the desired font in your document's file to save the character style in the document. This will increase the size of the Word document, but will allow you to properly display the used fonts. You can only embed fonts in the format TrueType and OrtopTour.

To embed the font in your document Word, , open the file saving window (File - Save As ...) and select the Tools button and the Save settings line. In the window that opens, you must tick the Insert fonts into the file and click OK.

For the description of fonts in the professional sphere, use special terms and concepts.

The font headset determines the completeness of the characters and their appearance. Technically, the most complete set is equipped with headsets that comply with the UNICODE standard. There behind each national symbol the unique name and the unique 16-bit code is fixed. And with it, and a unique place in the set.

Font types:

• with serifs at the ends of letters - antique;

• without serifs at the ends of letters - grotesques;

• monospaced;

• special (character sets).

Fonts with serifs increase read speed and reduce fatigue (if large arrays of text) ( Times New Roman , now - Cambrina ) .

Font sans-serifs are improved character discrimination (in conditions unfavorable for reading - by color, in cells of tables and diagrams) ( Arial (well with UNICODE; now there are also Calibri, Candara ) .

Fonts are monospaced - all symbols of the same width, imitate the font of the typewriter (day of forms, texts of programs (listings), imitation of a typewriter) ( Courier ) < strong>.

Symbolic fonts for special functions (music, traffic rules) ( Symbol ) , only here are the correct ones plus & quot ;, minus and is equal to .

Writing options:

• Hard text selection (italic, bold, bold italic, underline);

• Flexible text selection - discharge, alternative font (with or without serifs, usually 0.5 points less than the main one), color, capital - small caps.
