I have to say, overfishing is not such a big package in Hong Kong since Hong Kong fishing boats are usually small to medium-sized crafts which do not play a major role to overfishing. Hong Kong is also not closely influenced by overfishing problems as our seafood prices are not affected nor is our seafood stock. However I choose to article on overfishing as I really believe, as a global citizen, I have to take the effort to understand these global problems.
Imagine every day where a small serving of fish and chips on your dinner dish becomes a exceptional and expensive delicacy. That day may well not be too far away. Scientists believe overfishing is the biggest menace to the marine ecosystem. If there is nothing done now, it is believed that there will be profound changes inside our oceans that can never be reverted.
So, how come overfishing dangerous? Who and just why are people involved with overfishing? What will happen if overfishing continues? The answers to these questions will surely rely the knowledge of overfishing from a global, regional and personal point of view.
What Is Overfishing?
Overfishing is merely the procedure of taking so many fish from a body of drinking water that the number of fish in it becomes very low. There are generally 3 types of overfishing. These are expansion overfishing, recruit overfishing and ecosystem overfishing.
Growth overfishing is the procedure of capturing fish before they can be fully grown resulting in a decrease in the common size of the seafood population. This sort of overfishing does not have such a major effect on the ecosystem but poses more of a problem for the market as the actual benefit from the fish is reduced.
Recruit overfishing is when is when the mature adult populace is depleted to an even where it no longer gets the reproductive capacity to replenish itself. There aren't enough adults to produce offspring. This sort of overfishing is a serious environmental as it is one of the main reasons why there's a dwindling number using species of fish.

I myself do eat fish once in a while but since I only eat seafood occasionally I really do not imagine I am strongly contributing to overfishing.

In conclusion, I hope that one day the world's leaders will treat overfishing more very seriously and take serious action to handle overfishing.
