The End or The Beginning?
This module has offered as a reminder that I will not give up on group interaction. I have to accept the dynamics therefore i can be a much better manager, head and group member. We've learned about the significance of groups which a sizable part in our professional life fundamentally depends on our group connection skills. Increasing group interaction skills can be quite satisfying to all or any group participants and advance the business enterprise organizational model as well. There's also some significant challenges and hurdles intertwined with small group discussion. This makes groups a crucial concentration for study, exam and action. The goal of this summary paper is to identify key concepts or topics that people have talked about, examine why we review group relationship, a self-analysis in our capacity, and a debate on how group OL313 is performing.
Topic 1 Talk - Background factors.
The first subject matter I want to discuss is background factors. By definition, backdrop factors are characteristics that existed before the groups formation and will probably endure after the group no more is present. Some relevant track record factors include personalities, get older, health and worth. Personality is one of the most important history factors in small group conversation (Tubbs, 2009). I am an associate of a modification proposal working group and go to monthly conferences for my corporation. Due to my perceptions of the chairperson and the group in general, this meeting is basically a time killer for me. There have been interactions with other group customers who have noticed that there is a difference in my attitude as i attend this appointment. I would say I have to do a much better job of camouflaging my frame of mind while joining this conference. I don't believe I could bypass my frame of mind without engaging the source.
Personality appears to be the most relevant backdrop factor in this case. It appears that the chairperson has trained themselves to look for opportunities for improvement without regard for the noted process. I got trained to check out the documented process for repeatable, sustained results. I've conceded that the noted processes may be too restrictive for our goal, but gleam process to get relief from said limitation. Situationally, I've determined that is actually a personality issue, at least on my part. The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), a popular method of calculating personality, exposed that I exhibited a high tendency towards introversion. Some of the ways introverts are referred to include, more reserved, like to be alone plus more focused.
I have learned, that although I don't see this as my problem, I have been a adding factor to the problem or issue at hand. I have been a hindrance to the working groups goal of resolving the changes proposal issues. I've set a personal goal to try and resolve this turmoil. I may not have the ability to fix an issue within a working group but I will have the ability to control my actions and set a good example to check out.
Topic 2 Discussion - Circumstance and Structure
I work in a windowless building however the technology found in some of our seminar rooms is our home window to the world of the B-2 bomber. Normally the atmosphere of the building I work in feels restricting. A dreary place where in fact the atmosphere never changes. The discussion rooms however, are extremely well managed and tastefully decorated. It gives off a good vibe when you attend conferences in these convention rooms and I really believe it effects the way people respond and respond to the information reviewed in these locations.
The meetings that we normally participate in happen in three large, well preserved discussion rooms located throughout the building. There are usually several large rectangular desks create in a horseshoe design and the chair are incredibly comfortable. The horseshoe structure allows dignitaries or the head of the reaching to sit at the top of the desk. This position allows all individuals to view the first choice of the reaching. Because of the number of workers, there can be an overflow area founded on both factors of the desks.
One large edge we utilize inside our seminar rooms is the capability to training video teleconference (VTC) between geographically separated units. The guests can view each locations speaker if indeed they share the same equipment architecture. The conference rooms also have the capability to thrust briefing slides, normally ability point, across multiple locations and this capacity allows all members to share data. I enjoy the ability to take notice of the VTC briefers as they offer their information to the group. It helps me understand that they may be people like me, and not only another speech with a tasker or an task. During the last five years, I have noticed that individuals tend to be seated in the same locations when participating meetings in these discussion rooms. I also sit down in the same locations depending on appointment content and my role through the meeting. You can find meetings whenever i am necessary to short information to the group and it's really during those conferences when I remain at the stand. That seat is really as close to the VTC camera as you possibly can so I am off camera to the group, but located near a mike so I can be read. Another meeting I attend places me more in a support role and I make an effort to sit away from the table, but close enough to the briefer to assist with questions or clarifications. These identified seating assignments look like accepted as the norm by all attendees. I have had a need to sit in other locations than my normal place and there have been occasions when the meeting couch didn't think I had been in attendance.
The size of the group has a direct effect on conversation. Smaller groups, less than ten, seem to be more comfortable and prepared to help in the exchange of ideas or speak up when required. The bigger groups, to add the offsite guests, lose focus on the discussion matter and start sidebar interactions. Theses sidebar interactions can be very distracting and limit the exchange of ideas and reasoned answers to topics at hand. Personally, i think I perform better in the smaller communities and need their responses to help my performance. The larger groups are an effort for me as I don't always know who the players are and exactly how they normally function. It seems or feels as though there is absolutely no cohesion or unity.
The communication network that I see demonstrated of these meetings, using our wonderful VTC system, is the steering wheel. In this case the leader is viewed as the central person, or hub of the wheel and everything communication and commentary must go through the hub or leader (Tubbs, 2009). The first choice of the getting together with is in control of the technology and reactions are limited to the first choice of the meeting. The other offsite users appear to manage their appointment in the same fashion. I think it works very well in preventing people speaking over each other while using the technology. The ability to have productive conferences relates to many different facets. From the setup of the convention room furniture to your territorial couch at the assembly, these affects can add or impede the group's ability to operate. Some organizations have grown very adept at the utilization of the technology and I feel that its use provides everyone with more feedback on the items discussed. Although it appears our authority is by using a restrictive communication network described as the wheel, it appears to work well for the groups employing this technology.
Why Review Group Interaction
At the essential level interaction is merely communication. Small group relationship is the process by which three or more members of a group communicate, verbally and non-verbally, to affect one another (Tubbs, 2009). How come an organization or specific need to educate themselves about connection? The answer is apparently straight forward for the reason that nearly every business requires some type of connections or communication. For this communication to be successful, it needs certain skills and functions. The continued review of communication will refine your skills and competencies which, in turn, will allow you the opportunity to become a more effective manager, innovator and team member. This knowledge can save the organization time and limit expenditures.
The first thing that comes to mind is how much time has handed since I have been in a class room. The knowledge has initiated a reassessment of my talents as a student, learner and team member. As a student, I realize I need to improve my review skills and practice interaction daily. After retiring from the military services, I intentionally sought out employment that would limit interaction. I did not need to be in control or management as I did not want to get that responsibility again. As I have progressed through the existing company, I require those skills once more if I hope to be promoted. My capability to learn has not changed and then for that I am thankful. But knowledge program has experienced.
This course has reveal some communication issues I am experiencing at the job and that identification has led me to a fresh goal. That goal is to participate in the process through interaction and communication. I'm not sure easily can reverse the negative interaction developments I have observed, but I am certain I wish to be a person that contributes, not really a person that detracts from the group goals. Once I twisted my mind around what the professor expected and the coaching style, I enjoyed the class. I am a gradual basic with new information but my fascination with the subject subject increased with each week of instruction.
Another module down and the group is the fact that much nearer to completing the objective of a college degree. I don't presume to really know what the rest of the class feels but I for just one am very comfortable being part of the group. The fact the the majority of us have either experienced armed service experience or been employed by near to the military organic appears to be the one thing we all talk about; apart from being human I mean. I do not recall one example where we'd a concern within the group. As the oldest member of the group, I have faced technology challenges during training. Everyone in OL313 has helped or offered to help me straighten out those issues. There have been several inside our group who appear to have shown a proclaimed improvement in communicating and interacting. It's been a pleasure to see those changes for the better. I appreciate dealing with several this caliber and look forwards to the few months we have left over in this program.
