Signature Advantages My Strengths Goal Education Essay

Many people, including myself, have no idea where to begin when determining a profession path or course of study to follow. The StrengthsQuest diagnosis tool utilizes new theories in positive mindset and strengths structured development to try to realize ancient philosophies today. I conducted research expecting to find out about the ideas behind the StrenghtsQuest assessment and also about my studies and exactly how they relate with my future planning. I've found that my own strengths are extremely much in line with my pursuits and future job possibilities.

Concepts

Positive Psychology

Traditional views in mindset have described subconscious health insurance and well-being as the absence of disease and distress; focusing initiatives on growing treatments to look after individuals who are afflicted in some way. Positive psychology, according to Peterson and Recreation area, strains that "happiness and fulfillmententail more than the id and treatment of problems. " They continue to identify it as "the study of optimum experience-people being their best and doing their finest (Peterson & Park, 2008). Positive mindset is a comparatively new concept in the field of psychology; nonetheless it is becoming more popular. Proponents do not claim that diseases and stresses are not issues for a few, but that everyone can benefit from the theories behind positive psychology.

Strengths-Based Development

Positive psychology is designed to promote well-being and general life satisfaction. One way this is achieved is by analyzing one's skills and concentrating on strengthening them. For many years, and still to this day, people throughout the world presumed that knowing one's weaknesses, and attempting to improve on them, would help them are more successful than knowing their strengths and working around their weaknesses (Hodges & Clifton). On the other hand, many top managers recognize the huge benefits to obtaining the natural strengths of their personnel and using that knowledge to raised manage workgroups. These ideas also appeal to numerous in the educational field, including administrators, counselors and students.

"Everyone has advantages. They need to be known, celebrated, strengthened, and used (Area & Peterson, 2008). " Simple and logical, but this thought process is often ignored and only grooming "well-rounded" individuals. In studies, scholar populations that focused on using their strengths gained self confidence and were later able to work on their weaknesses (Recreation area & Peterson, 2008). Also cited was disappointment by those only working on personal weaknesses rather than strengths. Aside from assurance, those regularly utilizing their strengths were less stressed out, happier, and even more fulfilled.

Practical Application

Positive mindset and strengths structured development specifically, are greatly appreciated by school advisors and organizational tendencies specialists. Both learner and employee populations that positively participated in power development exercises experienced better school or work area engagement. Higher degrees of proposal are associated with less absenteeism, lower failure rates and higher GPAs among students (Hodges & Clifton).

Personal power development and higher worker proposal have an optimistic impact at work. Workers who've the "possibility to do what they do best, " are much more engaged and have more job satisfaction. In the workplace, job satisfaction is often linked with job performance and higher probability of success (Hodges & Clifton).

Personal Relevance

My StrengthsQuest Results

Upon completing the StrengthsQuest diagnosis, a report was generated revealing my personal top five talents with explanations and types of each. First outlined was context, context talented people enjoy taking into consideration the history and understand today's by finding out more about its record. Second was learner, they may have great desire to learn and continuously improve; to them, the procedure of learning is particularly exciting. Next, deliberative people are characterized by the care used when confronted with decision-making tasks. They anticipate road blocks. Achiever talented people are hard personnel and take great satisfaction from being occupied and productive. Last, analytical people seek out reasons and causes; they think about all the factors influencing a given situation.

I cannot say any of the signature talents reported arrived as a wonder, but having them described to me helped to reinforce my affinity for going after a degree-and future career-in the field of history. Until recently I had not considered history as a possible career route. My recent desire for it, I dread, may have influenced my StrengthsQuest examination results. I am anxious to duplicate the survey, easily am able, and find out if my results line up a second time. However, this might you need to be a manifestation of my deliberative and analytical edges.

Past Evidence

Looking again with this new knowledge, it becomes visible that these abilities have been exercised throughout my life. Examples of each come to mind without much trouble. Additionally it is easy to understand how many of the abilities, if exercised too much, might be counterproductive; there are several good examples here as well.

Growing up, but still to this day, I am fascinated by history. I have visited numerous museums, forts, battlefields, and other historical sites. I find discovering the artifacts and the places where historical situations actually took place very fascinating. My learner expertise ties in nicely with these excursions and additional explains my recurrent urges to find out about somewhat random topics to meet my interest. Deliberative and analytical talents-along with framework and learner-show themselves when I am faced with hard decisions such as investing in a used car. My achiever ability, I've read, is the drive that keeps me going, both at the job and in school.

Though these skills all look like positive, and they're, they can present disadvantages. Several times growing up I found that curiosity given birth to form my learner talent was an enabler of procrastination and a distraction from completing important research or home work promptly. My deliberative and analytical talents make it problematic for me to make decisions sometimes, choosing a significant to go after in college or university is a best example. Finally, my achiever ability drives accomplishment, which is great as i attain things. However, after i am less successful, or when efforts take longer than expected, this expertise can cause me to feel down on myself.

Future Goals

As I mentioned earlier, I plan to pursue a diploma and ultimately a job related to history. I received a handout from a rep of European Michigan University describing many of the skills developed in search of a history level. High on the list were research, critical evaluation, gathering and organizing data, utilization of past events to explain today's, interpreting occurrences, and examining information. It is simple to observe how my signature talents outlined in my own StrengthsQuest review results align with the abilities needed to flourish in the field.

Further evidence of the alignment of my skills to the skills required in search of a degree in history are available in articles by O'Connnor and Cordova entitled "Learning: The Experience of Men and women Who Work Full-Time While Attending Graduate College Part-Time. Lots of the career paths in neuro-scientific history become a lot more inviting with a sophisticated level and my situation meticulously mimics that of an adult returning to institution greater than a traditional college university student. They found that no matter the exterior reason these individuals returned to school, their primary desire was that they were intrinsically encouraged to learn (O'Connor & Cordova, 2010). In the same way, Within an article called "Analysing Background" the authors clearly express analysis' role in educating history by asking where to find meaning in organic, disturbing, or distant happenings, or how the several aspects of learning history come together (Counsell et all, 2010). Truthfully, the response here's in their evaluation and finding of how these small, complex, disturbing or faraway events match the big picture.

One last thing I observed while doing research, is that of these signature strengths seem to give food to into each other for some reason. Part of this is indicated in a quotation from O'Connor and Cordova's "Learning" (2010)

"Research workers have explained the role of experience by emphasizing the role of representation in the training process. When adults think about their experiences, they are making meaning of them. Experiences by themselves are not learning opportunities, unless we think about them and examine them. " (p. 361)

This illustrates one blend of several of these strengths; context, analyzing, and learning. When evaluated, my StrengthsQuest results show other logical ways these abilities compliment and promote one another.

Conclusion

While I've not exhaustively analyzed every possible career course related to the field of background, I do consider the field of analysis truly likes and dislikes me. I will use the info I have discovered from taking the StrengthsQuest examination to help focus my plans for advanced schooling and another career. The ideas and proof behind the StrengthsQuest assessment tools are convincing; why should people make themselves unpleasant trying to boost on their weaknesses when producing and including their advantages is a lot more engaging and satisfying?
