Introduction

The reading activity has always been viewed as an important element in someone's culture and education. According to Bamberger (1975), reading develops one's intellect therefore which makes it an excellent form of learning. Catalogs and the reading potential are necessary for a person's lifelong education. To advertise the reading behavior, especially in children, he emphasized the role of parents and professors as effective influences to allow them to become visitors as well. Libraries likewise have a very important function, which is to provide opportunities for development of reading interests and habits through making materials accessible to readers, in addition to instilling in them the abilities in using the library.

In 1967, Ibne Insha analyzed the problem of reading patterns of Asians and layed out the common hindrances to the introduction of the reading habit, including factors such as illiteracy and low purchasing electricity. He implied however, that libraries may help in promoting the reading habit if only they were used well. He echoed the value of the role played out by libraries in acquiring materials needed and preferred by its community of users. Library instructions was also viewed as an integral part in achieving the goal of reading advertising.

In many of these reading studies, the example place by parents and instructors with good reading patterns have possibility in stimulating children and pupils to learn. Some literacy surveys show however, that students who are training to become professional teachers haven't any positive attitudes towards reading (Applegate & Applegate, 2004; Su-Yen, 2007). Specifically, the students of education they may have studied were engaged in little extracurricular reading. The implication from these research is that as future educators, they must become role models if their students are to emulate the reading behavior.

The College Library

The academic catalogue is mounted on the academic organization it acts. Its main clients are comprised of students and faculty. For this reason, the resources and services it provides should mirror the academics goals of the organization, and meet up with the information needs of these users. The library's central series should help them in satisfying their academics pursuits by giving them with appropriate resources and materials related with their fields. Aside from these, the selections should also support research and provide materials for recreational purposes (Coughlin, 1992). It is important then, that libraries continue to determine the needs of its users.

According to Baker (1990), the library should develop its collections and services with their users' needs, and the satisfaction of the needs, in mind. He outlined the priorities that must definitely be made regarding library resources and services the following

"1) information (the communication, in any form, of knowledge or data made available for the patron's use); 2) education, including self-education, support for the educational endeavors of teams and organizations, and support for formal education with supplementary and enriching materials, and; 3) recreation". In universities of education, specifically, where in fact the training and education of teachers is the main purpose, the provision of materials to meet the academic, research and extension information needs of the faculty and students is important especially when liberal education is increasingly becoming the aim (Platt, 1972).
