George Tesman is a well-intentioned young man on his way to becoming a harmless drudge. He is a study scholar whose chief abilities, ''collecting and arranging, '' will be more clerical than insightful. He also seems more specialized in the minutia of history, the domestic establishments of middle ages Brabant, than he's to his better half, Hedda, around whom he usually seems doltish and imperceptive. He is unaware, for example, that she actually is pregnant, a fact that does not escape his Aunt Juliana.
Judge Brack - Brack is a judge of relatively second-rate rank. He's a friend of both Tesman* and Hedda, and he goes to their house regularly. He has cable connections around the city, and is often the first to provide Tesman information about alterations in the probability of his professorship. He appears to enjoy meddling in other's affairs. He's a worldly and cynical man.
Judge Brack hides his desire for an intimate romantic relationship with Hedda with an outward friendship for George Tesman and a cloak of respectability. He's, in reality, quite sinister and unprincipled, a superior stalker who awaits an opportunity to seduce Hedda, to become the ''one cock in the container. ''
Brack is specially dangerous because he's a fair judge of persona, except, finally, in Hedda's circumstance. He is honestly stunned by her suicide, something he didn't anticipate would result from his success in maneuvering her into a compromising position
Ejlert L¶vborg - A genius, Ejlert L¶voborg is Tesman* biggest competitor in the educational world. He also offers another manuscript that is even more encouraging. Mrs. Elvsted helped him with both manuscripts. He once shared a close relationship with Hedda.
Eilert Lovborg is George Tesman's potential nemesis. Unlike Tesman, he is both a visionary and genius, but he's cursed with an incapability to moderate his patterns. He bears disreputability on his backside, luggage from a past where he ruined his reputation by unspecified but dissolute do. However, when he first looks, he has restored desires. He has been influenced by Thea Elvsted, who has both prompted his reformation and been his able helper in his scholarship or grant and writing. He has also published an effective book and it is close to concluding its more outstanding sequel.
Mrs. Elvsted - Mrs. Elvsted is a meek but ardent girl. She and her hubby chosen Ejlert L¶vborg as a teacher with their children, and Mrs. Elvsted grew attached to Ejlert, acting as his personal secretary and aiding him in his research and writing. When Ejlert leaves her property to return to the town, Mrs. Elvsted comes to town and would go to Tesman* for help, fearing Ejlert will revert to his alcoholism. Mrs. Elvsted went to university with Hedda and remembers being tormented by her.
During the course of Hedda Gabler, Thea confesses that she has fled from her loveless and boorish hubby, Sheriff Elvsted, and her stepchildren, destroying her reputation to check out Eilert Lovborg to Christiania. For the last two years, she possessed both reformed the debauched Lovborg and motivated his new work. Despite her great effect on the amazing Eilert, her hopes of acquiring his love are faint. A shadow sits on their relationship: Eilert's residual emotions for a former enthusiast, who, unbeknownst to Thea, is Hedda Gabler.
Berte - Berte is George* and Hedda Tesman's servant. Previously, she was the servant in Juliane Tesman's household. She tries very hard to please Hedda, her new mistress, but Hedda is quite dissatisfied with her.
Berta is the Tesmans' middle-aged, maid. She actually is a faithful family retainer, formerly utilized by George Tesman's maiden aunts but now in the service of George and Hedda at their recently purchased villa. Her closeness to Juliana Tesman makes her a risk to Hedda, who intensely dislikes George's aunt. In early stages, Hedda threatens to discharge Berta, partially to discomfort George, but also because she plainly recognizes Berta with George's family and its own deeply affectionate binds that Hedda loathes.
Aunt Rina - Aunt Rina is dying in the beginning of the play. She never looks onstage. She helped Aunt Julle increase Tesman*
