The Morals Behind THE STORYPLOT Solzhenitsyn English Literature Essay

Solzhenitsyn's genuine/modernistic writings are suffering from essentially around his own private biography. His modernistic nature encompasses the public environments that were quickly becoming out-of-date both socially and politically in a time were immorality of mankind have been built around their daily lives. Alexander's unique sense of writing style separates him from other creators, because he uses his biography so that entraps the audience. "He presents the info with such tact and quality that the audience may come to their own conclusions while Solzhenitsyn skillfully avoids the capture of taking sides" (Monas 398). Solzhenitsyn's writings involve some things in common such as the styles can all relate to each other such as imprisonment, personal anguish, and the moral aspect that is gained by people who experience and learn from their hurting such such as "Matryona's Home". Collectively these help to emphasize the vigor of the individual heart and soul, which can clearly be seen throughout his testimonies.

Solzhenitsyn's early life started out growing up fatherless in Rostov, Russia, departing only his mom to improve him (Lawall 2262). Minus the help of his father, the family was extremely poor, and the Russian Civil Conflict didn't help the situation whatsoever. His mom and Aunt Irina recognized his beliefs under a strong religious and intellectual influence emphasizing specifically his moral commitments to the Russian Orthodox faith, playing an important part in his works (Ericson 257). After graduating from high school, he visited institution at the Division of Mathematics at Rostov College or university.

He offered during World Conflict II as a commander of the reconnaissance battery in the Red Military in 1942. This time period is where he begins to essentially develop a process of his own writings about being truly a soldier through the war. He started out having his doubts about any of it, and had written a notice to his good friend, Nikolai Vitkevich, who solved all of his characters even after having a year's silence, and it could not change lives on the globe (Scammell 136). With this letter it experienced criticized the Soviet head, Stalin along with other top officials. After the letter had been intercepted and screened by military services mail screeners, he was accused of anti-Soviet propaganda, thus he was immediately caught and sentenced to eight years in prison. It was during this time period of imprisonment and exile that he began to abandon his Marxist values, because it has "fallen so low which it is becoming an anecdote; it's simply an thing of contempt" (Solzhenitsyn 54).

After getting away from prison Solzhenitsyn little by little converted into a philosophically-minded Religious as a result of his experience in prison and the work camps throughout his incarceration which was immensely important in understanding his writing system during this time period (Ericson 177-205). This offered him the ability to include more detail throughout his reviews such as with Matryona's Home. At first he describes setting up as a town of peace and quiet with villages which may have complete silence from the modernized world in a first person point of view. When he talks about sitting on a stump for a long time, wishing that he didn't have to eat so that he can stay there forever, giving it a more simplistic and naturalistic firmness to the storyplot. This engages a aesthetic picture through imagery to captivate the audience. I really like this part about any of it, since it is something we can all relate with by enjoying a little tranquility. He will not build relationships materialistic things, it's the simple things in life that bring him joy such as untouched characteristics. He is enjoying the independence from not being in prison, and he does not take things for awarded anymore. I for one can see why he'd not need to be bothered after the mess that he had experienced.

Before heading to Matryona's home he describes the arranging around him, he was walking from town to village looking for a spot to stay giving details of the young families he had asked. The first family he had asked acquired no room as these were keeping her aged mother, and the rest of the homes were congested and loud. He offered a "truckload of peat for the wintertime for whoever would take him", meaning that they would not need to venture out in the bitter cold. The individuals would take him, but there is just not enough room for him, this depicts the lives of the villagers.

The last house that he been to was a vintage woman in her sixties known as Matryona. She possessed the characteristics of an grandmother; old, senile, however in the end they more often than not give in. The house was referred to as "turning gray with age", because the home was old. Initially you would not want in which to stay a shack such as this, but under the circumstances with nobody being able to admit him, he really acquired no other options. He offered the peat, and she required him up on the offer to cover the rent. She possessed a kitten, cockroaches, and mice living with her. The cockroaches had to be overlooked, for she was scared that placing borax down would harm the kitten as well. There is symbolism here, but I am not quite sure how to place it, the cat could symbolize the old Russia, slowly but surely falling apart, so when you try to hurt the cockroaches which would symbolize Stalin, and the problem, that there will be some fatalities that come down with them. Taking down corruption is not a simple job, because you must take it from the inside out in order to achieve success.

The mice would represent this, because they're in the walls of the building.

Over time he received used to Matyona's cottage equally as she have, because she was required to either adjust to the environment or have nowhere else to travel, so surely she would select the home. Throughout time he previously became aware that she had more to do than simply cooking and sitting down at home all day long. She possessed a schedule to put into practice, and she stored to it. Further in the storyline he described that she had not been receiving a pension from her spouse and that she had did the trick for credits. That is similar to what old people do today, but I did not know that pensions were given that way back when. We take care of our old customers, looking up to them, and try to provide them with a helping hand when in need. That's where he begins to take on the sympathizing with the visitors to better involve ourselves with it. We can prefer to get either on her behalf or against her, as for he does not have any sides in this account, because it is foundation on morals.

After Ingnatich exhibited us the features that Matryona and he symbolizes her as saint, putting others before herself, equally my grandmother does indeed for me. When she experienced heard on the air that new machines have been invented, she would always complain about in with the new and away with the old. Like I said earlier, she's that grandmother influence about her not needing change, and keeping things the way they are. I possibly could relate to having new machines, since it is perfect for the better, and we have to suggest to them this even though they are really stubborn. He received annoyed with her about wearing his jacket, and doing things for everyone else and not taking care of herself, and she'd never accept purchase some thing. That day she experienced died within an accident. He believed guilty about her loss of life, because he yelled at her, and today he cannot take it back again. That is interesting that she experienced died so out of the blue, and her loss of life showed the real colors of some of the townspeople equally fatality always brings people out of the woodworks. This is sort of a good thing though for her, as she is in an improved place now where pain can't be felt, no more worries to be anxious about, and she is in God's hands now.

When reading this book, we can put ourselves in Ignatich's shoes relating to the imprisonment to be watched by "Big Brother", like when his letter was read, and they dispatched him to prison. The non-public sufferings can be related to with the poverty that the folks are placed through, and have to find out with what little they may have. The moral aspect that is gained by people who undergo and study from their suffering such as Ignatich have when moving into the life of Matryona. He was able to get in and examine her, and things that made her tick. He built that personal romance with her, and that is why the old female really desired, and that's the reason she tried so difficult to make friends with everyone.

In final result, "his work epitomizes a peculiarly modernistic way of coping with moral reasoning and its problems by debunking, deconstructing, and dissolving the hermeneutics of suspicion by demonstrating how its assumptions lead to a misreading of the empirical realties of realities of record. Then he goes beyond this deconstruction to found a postmodern ethic that affirms human dignity when confronted with point out terrorism" (Inchausti 34). Solzhenitsyn was once a innovator commander of an reconnaissance, and possessed some bad procedures, but after imprisonment he has deconstructed himself, and was built support under extreme circumstances adding him in someone else's shoes viewing it from another point of view. This story brings about the spirit of the audience to sympathize and relate, looked after gives the readers a caution, that your morals play a more substantial role in life than you think, so make wise decisions before you react.
