Natural Resource Potential and Its Economic Assessment

The study of natural conditions is carried out in order to assess their impact on various sectors of economic activity. For example, mining of minerals can primarily begin on deposits located in more favorable natural conditions, since it will be more economical. The cost of capital construction depends to a large extent on the strength and watering of soils, the degree of seismicity or swampiness of the territory, the presence of permafrost and relief topography. The cost of water supply, lighting of dwellings and their construction is different in areas of warm and cold, wet and dry climate, in conditions of short and long daylight hours. Natural conditions also need to be assessed from the perspective of the living conditions of the population. They are one of the most important factors facilitating or hampering settlement and development of the territory, largely determining the extent, ways and forms of using its natural resources and economic opportunities. The favorable or unfavorable nature of these conditions, both in their natural form and altered as a result of anthropogenic transformations, has a strong and diverse effect on all aspects of the life of the population.

In this regard, it is important to implement an estimated zoning of the territory of the country according to the degree of favorable natural conditions for the life of the population. The main difficulty lies in the development of algorithms for evaluation studies. In principle, typical benchmarks are suitable for this purpose.

Natural resources in terms of their economic content are consumer values, the usefulness of which is determined by the degree of study, the level of scientific and technical progress, and the economic and social expediency of use. The economic evaluation of the natural resource potential includes the consideration of a multitude of factors (economic, social, technical, ecological-geographical) that determine the spatial differences and the importance of natural resources for human life and activity.

In the economic evaluation of minerals, the following parameters are used: the scale of the field, determined by its total reserves; quality of minerals, its composition and properties, operating conditions; thickness of beds and conditions of their occurrence; economic importance; annual output. Thus, the economic evaluation of natural resources is an estimate of their quantity, quality, economic importance, value.
