Yamaha Music is a Multi-National Firm (MNC) that is very well known for their musical devices and music university. Yamaha being truly a diverse business also do businesses that are related to audio tracks products, music software, and motorcycles. Yamaha is well known globally and has outlet stores in more than 40 countries, stretches across 6 continents.

It is sure a MNC like Yamaha music does not prosper and become so well known overnight. A corporation like that will need to have taken many years to build up their reputation, and increase across the globe to be know by many. Therefore, it certainly amazes me and I am inquisitive to learn how they truly became so renowned by the world, specifically in Singapore.

Aside from musical tools, Yamaha have broadened their business into making and providing other music-related products such as sound software and products, and IT machines. In addition, Yamaha also broadened their business into lifestyle-related products and the well-known Yamaha Motors. To be in such a huge business helped Yamaha charm to an considerable selection of customers.

Other than retailing products that Yamaha produce, they also opened up music institutions as well. Their music schools also got a good reputation themselves. That they had more than 700, 000 students and growing in more than 40 locations and countries Yamaha has numerous classes and various classes to focus on students of different generation, interest and level of difficulty.

Torakusu Yamaha was the Yamaha Organization Founder & Leader (1887-1916). That was how Yamaha's name came about. Yamaha was raised with an extremely liberal education, studying executive and astronomy. At age 19, Yamaha started out his own watchmaking and repair company which soon failed. After which, he performed as a repairman, restoring gadgets like medical tools. There was one occasion, at a university in a town of Hamamatsu, Yamaha was approached to repair a prized organ. From these timeline, we can see that Yamaha possessed ventured and developed abroad. It was a risky thing to do at that time rather than many companies had done so at that point of time. It had been an doubtful market. However, they decided to bring Yamaha overseas. From just Japan, Yamaha acquired broadened to over 40 countries and parts.

Trough the heading and sponsoring the concerts, Yahama was presented to more folks. That was good as Yamaha gets publicized. Also, with the accolades that Yamaha gained, it acquired shown that they are a really a music company that produces good musical instruments.

Survey on Yamaha Music (Asia) Singapore

I have conducted a survey with 34 surveyors on Professional Profiling: A Study about Yamaha Music (Asia) Singapore.

In Annex A Fig. 1 and Fig. 2, based on the question's results, 94. 1% and 82. 4% respectively, of the surveyors have heard about Yamaha music. Plus its he music school that was found the most. This demonstrates majority of people that have done my survey, had found Yamaha in a single way or another, whether it is on TV advertising or passing by the store or even patronize it.

In Annex A Fig. 3, based on the question's results, 90. 9% of the surveyors would recommend Yamaha Music. This shows that Yamaha is a credible company which people will patronize over and over and also recommend it to other people. There are also 9. 1% of the surveyors who did not recommend Yamaha and I've asked if they would recommend other brands or stores, they would suggest brand like Gibson. This is because Gibson is customized in a certain device and Yamaha is not. Hence the grade of Gibson's instruments is certainly better than Yamaha's equipment.

In Annex A Fig 4, based in the question's results, 69. 7% of the surveyors considers that the devices can be purchased at an acceptable price. Hence this shows that majority of the surveyors think that the tools at Yamaha are affordable.

In Annex A Fig. 5, located in the question's results 82. 4%, which is the majority, would thought we would learn an instrument at Yamaha. This demonstrates Yamaha will provide quality music lessons to people who are interested.

SWOT Analysis

SWOT examination is a strategic planning method used to evaluate a task or in a business enterprise. It provides information that enables companies to complement resources and capabilities to the competitive environment in which the company operates. SWOT analysis we can look into the inner and exterior environment that influences the company.





The S in SWOT stands for Strengths. The strength of the individual or company shows us the capabilities that added to the company. The business's resources and capabilities are their durability. These advantages can be used as an impact for creating a competitive benefit.

The W in SWOT stands for Weaknesses. The weakness of the person or company explains to us what are the bad attributed that the company has that might be harmful to the business. Weakness can be seen as a corporation or person lack of certain strengths. Sometimes, weaknesses can be the effect of a strength, or a strength may be considered a weakness.

The O in SWOT means Opportunities. Opportunities will be the exterior conditions that are beneficial to the company. The external environmental analysis is able to let us really know what might have been the doors which were opened for the business that provided them with opportunities to expand, to develop and prosper.

The T in SWOT means Threats. Treats are external conditions which could do damage to the business. Besides opportunities, external environmental research can also help us to determine what are the hazards of the company as well.

Yamaha is one of the few music companies in Singapore that provides an enormous variety of tools. This helps it be better to find and buy musical musical instruments and music related products.

Most people will recommend Yamaha (Regarding to Annex A Fig. 3). This shows that Yamaha sells tools of good quality. That's one of the reasons why they might recommend Yamaha to others.

Yamaha has music classes that are target to all generation.

Yamaha has a good reputation among people. Therefore, majority of the individuals who have taken my study have heard of Yamaha. Majority of the people who have taken my study would also recommend Yamaha to others.

According to my survey results, Yamaha sells instruments at an acceptable price(Refer to Annex A Fig. 4).


From my review results, you may still find some people whom would not recommend Yamaha to others as they think that Yamaha does not specialize in making a specific instrument. Some of the people that responded that they would not recommend Yamaha because they largely advised a certain brand that specializes in guitar making (i. e. Gibson).

From my study result, there's also people who feel that Yamaha sells their devices at a higher price. This may because of their branding of equipment. Like I have mentioned, they aren't specialized in a particular tool hence some might think that it's the average instrument that are selling at an identical price as a firm that produces/specializes in a certain tool.

Yamaha is not so known for his or her specialization in instructing Electone.


From my research, Yamaha has a study and Development team that is constantly improving and coming up with new solutions (i. e. A acoustic guitar without electric guitar strings. Stings were changed with buttons). Yamaha creates improved upon/improvised instruments so that they are able to target a new group of people/younger customers.

Yamaha have been advertising much more set alongside the former. Yamaha have been adding more television advertising as well.


Yamaha has competition with other popular music classes(i. e. Cristofori Music Institution and Lee Wei Tune Institution of Music) (Make reference to Annex A Fig. 5). It shows the next two more well known music universities know by my surveyors).

Yamaha does not specialize in making a certain musical instruments, hence companies like Gibson or Fender gets an improved chance of offering their guitars than Yamaha.


Looking at the SWOT evaluation and review results, I have came up with some ideas that I feel might profit Yamaha Music (Asia, Singapore).

From the SWOT analysis, not a great deal of individuals know that Yamaha focuses on teaching Electone classes. Hence, I would recommend that they can do more adverts. It could be on TV or on posters or brochures. Hence people will start to take not that Yamaha offers Electone classes, which few music schools offer. By adding more advertising, Yamaha will be better still known as it will at the same time have the ability to promote the business itself.

From the survey that I got done, you may still find people who will recommend other brands of instruments instead of suggesting Yamaha's instruments. Hence, I would recommend that Yamaha could constantly improve with the device making. Hence, Yamaha's musical instruments can be on par with other brands of tools.
