Protecting the Rights of the Child
An important area of work with the family is the protection of the rights and dignity of the child. In accordance with the current normative documents (the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, the US Family Code, the Law on the Basic Guarantees of the Rights of the Child in the United States, the Law on Education), the work to protect the child from all forms violence is considered as an official duty of employees of educational institutions; the concepts of mechanisms for protecting the rights and legitimate interests of children are specified, and a ban on infringement of the rights of the child in the family and in the educational institution is introduced.
Ensuring the rights of children in the family largely depends on the level of legal culture of parents. Conducting explanatory, educational and corrective work on observance and protection of the rights of the child with them is the most important condition for the effectiveness of the educational process.
In the multifaceted work to protect the rights of the child, the entire collective of the educational institution should take part, but a special role belongs to the head of the children's institution, the methodologist, the psychologist and the teacher.
The tasks of the administration to identify and prevent child abuse include:
• Deciding on the organization of work to identify cases of assistance to children experiencing violence and cruel treatment by parents;
• finding out what services in the city (special services to protect children from abuse, helplines, etc.) deal with these issues and how they can be contacted.
The main task of the methodologist is to teach the educator literate and professional work to prevent violations of the rights of the child; selection of literature on the problem of preventing child abuse; one of the tasks is to inform the collective about the problem of cruel treatment, the types of such treatment, the factors that determine it.
The psychologist conducts observations on the behavior of children in groups, questioning parents, processing and analyzing the data; carries out diagnostic and corrective work with children and their parents.
The teacher is the main character in carrying out this work. From its qualification and culture depends the observance of the rights of children in an educational institution and the protection of the rights of children in the family. He carries out preventive, diagnostic and corrective work with children and parents, guides, educates, if necessary, supervises parents; conducts work on identifying cases of violation of the rights of the child, takes measures to protect children from cruel treatment of their parents. In order to prevent these provisions, the educator should work in the following areas:
• informing parents about the problem of protecting the rights of the child;
• Broadcast to parents of a positive image of the child;
• work on the correction of child-parent relations.
