Vocational guidance at the initial stage of education

Vocational orientation is a system of equal interaction of the individual and society at certain stages of human development, optimally corresponding to the personal characteristics and demands of the labor market in competitive personnel. Obviously, schoolchildren do not yet have to choose a profession. In the process of professional orientation, professional self-determination is formed - the attitude of the individual towards himself as a subject of future professional activity. It is formed throughout the life of a person, beginning with early childhood, continuing in the senior preschool, school and post-school age. Let's characterize this specificity.

For the older preschool age, the emotional-figurative stage of professional self-determination is characteristic when the child has a positive attitude towards the professional world -work people, their occupations, initial labor skills in pre-school activities.

An elementary school is a propaedeutic stage of professional self-determination of a person. It is characterized by the formation in children of love and conscientious attitude to work, understanding of its role in the life of man and society, the development of interest in the professions of parents and the closest associates. In addition to the formation of conscious ideas about the world of work and professions, the development of their emotional-volitional and intellectual sphere, reflection and realistic self-esteem, and the mastery of self-knowledge skills, ie, the development of their self-knowledge, are taking place in the process of professional orientation of junior schoolchildren. Propaedeutics of professional self-determination are carried out.

Based on current research, it is possible to compile a generalized characteristic of the level of professional self-determination of younger schoolchildren. Knowledge of the world of professions among younger students is not rich. Most often, instead of the name of the profession, children define the functions of professionals ("acting in the theater", "drawing something", "playing the piano", etc.). It is interesting to note that this also applies to the definition of human qualities ("all scolds", "laughs", etc.). Some fourth graders even form the names of professions by the name of the functions of a specialist ("works on a computer - a computer engineer", "cares for flowers - a flower garden", etc.).

The unrivaled task for children is the classification of professions by groups, they are not able to identify the general and special in the professions. These difficulties are caused both by a lack of understanding of the content side of the professions, and by the intellectual characteristics of children of this age, the lack of ownership of the operation of generalization.

The fact that the knowledge of schoolchildren about the world of professions is very limited is also evidenced by the set of professions that children name as preferences for themselves in the future. They are not recruited and two dozen. And the explanations for the choice of the profession that they prefer in the future are overwhelmingly emotional in nature (interesting, I love to travel, beautiful the theater, etc.). That is, emotional evaluations dominate as the main constituents of preferences of various kinds of work.

With a change in the social and economic conditions of society, a set of professions chosen by children is changing. These are no longer cosmonauts, firefighters, teachers, as in Soviet times; today children are more often and more willingly called managers, translators, programmers.

An unimaginable task for the majority of junior schoolchildren is the allocation of professionally important qualities of the professions known to them. On the question: what qualities should a representative of this profession have, most often the pupils of the 1-2th grade will answer: he should be kind, beautiful, cheerful, etc. The fourth-graders understand that the professional also needs something else, but they also with great difficulty give an answer to this question: for example, the programmer should be neat; manager - economical; the doctor - have a good memory.

Thus, students of this age are characterized by poorly differentiated perceptions of the world of professions, limited knowledge of it. Most often, professions are known to children by their names, some working functions, external signs. The main reference point in the world of professions is the developed emotional attitude towards them. In the mass of their children do not yet have a well-prepared readiness to choose a profession, but the peculiarity of this age is the expressed emotional component of this education. Emotional attitude towards professions (both positive and negative) is a harbinger of the emerging cognitive interest in them, as the emotional component outruns the process of cognition and largely directs it.

An essential feature of this age is an inadequate, often vague situational notion of one's own resource and the possibilities of its development, besides it is related to the inability to compare its capabilities with the conditions and requirements of professional activity. The instability of professional intentions at this age is natural, because junior schoolchildren have neither objective nor subjective reasons for a serious choice. Their psychological characteristics, personality are in the stage of intensive formation, development.
