The Witches In Macbeth Philosophy Essay

Witches are known to be extremely blood thirsty. When I say they are blood vessels thirsty, they are not actually thirsty for family pets, like I lion would be, nonetheless they thirst for men! The very first landscape in the play of Macbeth starts off with the witches. These witches are incredibly wicked and creepy. They have got evil chants and curses that they continually use on people. These witches, also known as "The Fates" (Wood 26), enjoy predicting people's futures, such as Macbeth's. In the event the witches hadn't predicted the continuing future of Macbeth, the storyline itself wouldn't normally be known as a tragedy. The witches, in the story of Macbeth, will be the ones that continuously drive the storyline.

Throughout the years there were several experiences and factual statements about the witches in Macbeth. The witches, also called "The Strange Sisters", are like dark thoughts and even little temptations that seem to appear in the life span of Macbeth. These three witches grow to be the most dangerous and outrageous individuals in the whole report (Wood 27). The fates, prophecies into the future, seem to be to be what ignites Macbeth's ambitions, which, in turn, causes him to improve his life completely. The fates begin with little praises or bribes, such as, " All hail Macbeth! Hail to thee, Thane of Glamis; All hail Macbeth! Hail to thee, Thane of Cawdor; and All hail Macbeth! That shalt be king here after" (Shakespeare 305). Macbeth's very best desire in

life is basically to become ruler, and he would do anything to make his wants come true. However, he doesn't have anything keeping that from taking place. At least not until the unusual sister's prophecies of Banquo, Macbeth's very good friends during the conflict, become considerably alarming to Macbeth. In the center of one of the functions, Macbeth fits with the strange sisters again, and demands that the witches simply tell him the future. During the picture Macbeth is been to by three Ghosts. The first Ghost says, "Macbeth! Macbeth! Beware Macduff, Beware the Thane of Fife. Dismiss me enough", the next ghost says, "Macbeth! Macbeth! Macbeth! Be bloody and strong and resolute. Laugh to scorn, that nobody women created shall damage Macbeth", and the third says, "Be lion - mettled, happy, and be mindful who chafes, who frets, or where conspires are: Macbeth shall never vanquish be until Great Birnam Lumber to High Dunsinane Hill shall come against him" (Shakespeare 359).

There continues to be one major question that needs to be answered. Who's Macbeth and what's his persona like? Macbeth used to be your typical, average warrior. He had a simple, easy life and a good wife, known as Girl Macbeth that he resided with in a very eloquent home. He is praised by everyone that views him, even the three fates. Macbeth was not simply a warrior, but a conqueror too. Sometimes there are specific problems that include being a person like that. Problems such as pleasure and selfish ambitions are typical characteristics of the warrior. So, although Macbeth was said to be a popular and a pretty decent guy, he still had his issues. Because the witches already acquired a appetite and a thirst for Macbeth, they found Macbeth's problems as the perfect possibility to cause him to change, and also to make things go

their way in the near future. One may say that if Macbeth was really a man, he should have stood up to the witches, and that he must have had the power to say no, because he was a warrior. That is clearly a very good point, but what really is not being found is the fact that Macbeth just arrived home from a long, hard war. He is beyond tired and intensely stressed. His thoughts are no longer clear and he's not only physically poor, but he, is also emotionally and psychologically drained. The unusual sisters are very similar to a eager lion looking for something to assault. Macbeth is the victim and the witches will be the eager lions. The Fates almost appear to be using Macbeth's mind and wants. The witches find the weaklings, exactly like that lion would. The supernatural capabilities of the witches, the predators, persuade Macbeth several times over.

Macbeth is the sort that can be easily persuaded and is not absolutely all that strong when it comes to not falling into temptations. This is exactly why the witches find him to be the perfect victim. Lions tend to go after the weakest, because they're the easiest prey to get. Macbeth is the weakest, as it pertains to his selfish ambitions. The witches are not only using their words to persuade Macbeth, but they, are also using the demonic supernatural powers to cast spells and anticipate the future. By using these things against Macbeth, such as his thirst to become ruler and his insufficient strength to state no to persuasive people, will clearly cause him to do anything to get what he wishes.

Witchcraft, by definition, is dark-colored magic, the wicked use of supernatural powers, which is calling on the power of the devil (Adam 1). When it comes to the annals of witches, in general, there are several interesting facts. For instance most witches have a tendency to be women, but there has

been on some situations, where men have been witches. You can become a witch or simply start training witchcraft way before the time of ten. The action of exercising witchcraft is the witch's way of displaying respect or commitment to Satan (Exposing Satanism. org 1). By worshipping Satan the witches wrap up receiving supernatural power (Exposing Satanism. org 1). These supernatural forces cause these witches to be very persuasive and are able to cast spells, by declaring a particular chant. The witches in Macbeth use several of those spells. Here are only a few: "Good is foul, and bad is good hover through the fog and filthy air" (Shakespeare 301), "Double trouble, toil and trouble, hearth shed and cauldron bubble". The past well know chant is, "The unusual sisters hand in hand, posters of the ocean and land, thus to thine, and thrice to mine, and thrice again, to constitute nine" (Shakespeare 355). The witches not only use chants to cause things to happen, but they also use supernatural capabilities. In one particular field their powers were used to encourage Macbeth to check out through in another murder. In act two, landscape 1, lines 44 - 45 it says, " Is this a dagger which I see before me, the handle toward my hands?" The witches actually use their supernatural powers to provide Macbeth with an imaginary dagger, simply to encourage him to check out through in a murder (Mowat and Werstine 221). Once someone becomes involved with witchcraft or satanic worship, it is rather hard to avoid. It almost becomes an obsession or dependency, just like drugs are to a medicine addict. This is exactly what happened to the fates. They began playing with Macbeth's emotions and eventually became so addicted that they could not stop. The witches definitely lack just a little thing called home - control. Initially, Macbeth was thought to produce an extreme desire to have the throne. Well, the fates have a desire to control not only Macbeth but everything. By description witchcraft is

not a religion; it really is just the practice of worshipping the devil. Some have said that the witches have contact with the dark underworld, which is very possible, because only the devil himself could think of so many wicked things (Wood 27). The weird sisters aren't necessarily driving a car the plot, but their prophecies and desires definitely are.

As you can clearly notice that the witches definitely place the play's tragic motion. Their prophecies corrupt Macbeth to the fullest degree. All of the witches do is complicate everything. They state and act like they can predict the future when in reality all they do is constitute stuff to upset Macbeth. The fates are packed with lays and deception. You can completely connect this play to high school. In senior high school, people have tons of peer pressure and unfaithful people adjoining them. Just when you think that someone will there be to help you, they change and stab you in the back. They conclude being some of the most unfaithful people in your life. Well, one might be considering how come Macbeth had not been more aware of what was happening, and more wise about the whole situation? Personally, I have been easily deceived. Yes, one can take precautions, but sometimes bad things, such as, being deceived can occur. All their prophecies are really warnings to Macbeth. If, the fates actually recommended well, they might show him the complete future, like him dying in the end. In some instances, Macbeth might well have made his own decisions, but in this case, there is too much deception and Macbeth obviously could not have seen this coming. This just would go to show that the witches and their prophecies definitely drive the story of Macbeth.
