Fundamental Attribution Mistake Theories

In social psychology attribution theory tries to explain the ways that people attribute the action of themselves or others to different things then what actually was the reason for the patterns. Often time's people feel that they know the reasons that others do things but in fact are inappropriate because the real known reasons for the presenting behaviors are other then your suspected causes. When a person thinks that individuals are behaving in a certain way credited to personality qualities alternatively than situational circumstances they have got made what is called a fundamental attribution error. Section 6 inside our text gives a good example of a professor who demonstrates to the same classes a 8:30 a. m. and 7:00 p. m. and thinks everyone in the 7:00 p. m. school is extraverted because they're always very chatty before course starts and everybody in the morning course are silent types. But what's actually the reality of the problem is in an early morning class while people are bodily present they are not automatically awake enough to be extremely chatty because they haven't quite received going yet.

The best example the essential attribution problem that ever happened to me was when I first transferred home from Hawaii to Orlando to visit school and I started getting together with my best friend's cousin who was simply about the nicest most beautiful lady ever. Now I was under the impression that she was nice because that was just the way she was or because that was just her personality type. THEREFORE I was taken in by all this niceness and joined into a relationship thinking I needed a woman who really liked me and who was about the sweetest person I had developed ever met in my own life. But what I didn't understand was the real situation that was creating her to do something this way. She needed a person who was successful to help her with her super smudged life and that was the actual situation. I thought she really was a very special girl but on the other hand she is actually a chilly uncaring person and a damn fine actress. So I attributed her kind habit to her personality when in truth she was only modifying to the situation she was in which was aiming to attract a person who may help her with her plight in life.

So I made a simple attribution problem of the most detrimental kind because it affected everything in my life there after. In my own case I've learned now that women are usually up to something especially if they can be being excessively nice for no noticeable good reason. In the future I intend to avoid such horrible attribution mistakes by doing qualifications and credit inspections on all my future potential girlfriends. This attribution problem also helped my realize that people in general aren't necessarily always just behaving a certain way just because of personality attributes but may also be trying to get around whichever situation they can be in at that current time. For instance a one who is cursing all the time might make every person think that they're very irritated and has profound seated problems and has no manners whatsoever when in simple fact the situation is that they have Tourette's syndrome plus they can't help it. But if we aren't alert to someone's situation then we will most likely attribute the tendencies to the individuals personality. But in our own case we jump right to situational circumstances to justify ourselves but with others we suppose it's just them that are what attribution theory and fundamental attribution theory try to explain.
