Professional deformations in the context of the problem of self-determination of the person

The development of ideas about this phenomenon is possible on the basis of its inclusion in the structure of the process of self-determination of the individual in a social and professional environment. In this sense, the main attention will be paid to those personal characteristics that are formed (changed or strengthened) in the course of human adaptation to the tasks of activity and overcoming uncertainty, i.e. in the process of self-determination.

We have already noted that the subject of self-determination is a person who faced the problem of choice, making decisions about his place in society, about future activities, etc.

Speaking about the psychological nature of self-determination, we would like to emphasize two components.

1. Identity as a meaningful result and the procedural meaning of self-determination. In the course of professional self-determination, a person seeks to reduce the uncertainty of ideas about himself and his future by considering the life and work path (according to EI Klimov ). In addition, identity can be an indicator of the level of professionalism of a person, the difficulties of self-identification can lead to professional marginalism (according to EP Ermolaeva). Therefore, personality deformities can be expressed in identity problems (crisis phenomena, marginalism, loss of positive social identity, etc.)

2. Features of choice, decision-making. In the procedural plan, self-determination appears as a person's search for an optimal decision regarding his place in the social and professional world under changing conditions. In this sense, the result of self-determination is not only a new quality, but also the experience of working on oneself, developing decision-making skills in certain conditions. In psychology, the decision-making process is based on the individual's activity in identifying and asserting one's own position in problem situations, analogous to the process of solving problems with varying degrees of uncertainty, complexity, and variability (according to AV Karpov). Deformations can manifest themselves in the shortcomings of the methods of decision-making developed by the individual.

In the context of the problem of self-determination of a person, the manifestation of professional deformations is the individual's loss of value-semantic orientations of behavior and communication and a violation of the mechanisms for finding adequate ways for further development. The appeal to the model of self-determination helps to overcome the difficulties of professionalization, which are expressed in the concept of professional deformations.

Professional deformations in this case are a cognitive-motivational phenomenon. On the one hand, they are associated with the distortion of information flows, the information basis of activity, on the other - with the formation of a certain inadequate image of the self, the value-semantic components of the individual. In general, this approach does not violate the established logic of understanding this phenomenon. At the individual at some period of his professional activity and under the influence of certain circumstances, certain qualities appear that prevent him from further development. It is important that the nature of these qualities lies in the system of self-determination of the individual - in the ideas about oneself and the ways of constructing and organizing these representations. In this case, examples of deformations receive a slightly different interpretation. This can be the loss of a positive professional identity, a bias within the categories "own - alien" with self-determination, distortion of values and meanings of activity, and the like.

Case Studies

A number of managers of the company showed a decrease in the focus on the creative solution of complex problems and self-development (the need for training, obtaining new information), which could affect the quality of their work. Psychologically, there was a decline in social identity (professional and group). As a consequence, there has been a devaluation and development of cynicism in relation to professional values and norms. Overcoming of these consequences was carried out with the help of identity training, in which the person "returns to himself", comprehends his status-role positions and attitudes, values, etc. In addition, the rationalization of ways of analyzing information and making decisions about yourself and your "professional field" was carried out.
