Tests of communicative abilities

Communicative abilities are the knowledge, skills and skills associated with the process of communication of people. They include the ability to listen and understand a person, establish good personal and business relationships with him, and exert psychological influence on him.

The following typical signs testify to the shortcomings in the development of human communicative abilities:

• A person is afraid of publicity, i.e. be in sight at all;

• a person experiences heightened anxiety, anxiety, expecting to communicate with unfamiliar people;

• a person is not completely satisfied with the results he really achieves in the practice of communicating with people;

• A person avoids people, especially strangers, and is afraid to enter into personal and business contacts with such people;

• the person has poorly developed verbal and non-verbal communication skills and skills;

• This person is not able to attract attention from other people, does not cause sympathy for themselves on their part;

• A person can not convince people and have a positive influence on them;

• a person is lost, embarrassed, feels uncomfortable in various situations of communication; does not know how to behave and what to answer people, the networks they refer to him;

• a person does not develop normal relationships with people and often due to interpersonal conflicts.

The psychologist-consultant should pay attention to all these signs first of all, talking with the client. Many of them, speaking about the lack of communicative abilities of the client, are relatively easy to notice, carefully watching how the client behaves in psychological counseling and how he talks with different people, including the counselor himself.

If the counselor needs to clarify something, not being satisfied with the purely visual psychodiagnosis of the client's communicative abilities, then he can additionally be asked a series of questions corresponding to the content of the symptoms listed above-signs of a lack of communication abilities. You can, for example, ask the client about whether he often communicates with people, whether he prefers to stay alone, is satisfied with the results of communication with different people, etc.

If this is not enough to accurately diagnose the communicative problems of the client and formulate appropriate practical recommendations, one of the following special psychological tests designed to assess communicative abilities will be available.

1. "What is a child in relationships with other people?"

This test allows you to assess how developed the communicative qualities of a person in children three to five years of age.

2. Questionnaire for parents, educators and teachers.

This questionnaire solves the same task as the previous method, but in relation to children entering school and junior schoolchildren.

3. The test of Spielberger on the study of anxiety. This test is designed to study children of adolescence and older, as well as for adults.

It allows you to indirectly judge the level of anxiety about the development of communicative abilities and the communicative problems that the client has.

If the level of personal anxiety is high enough for a client, then, most likely, communicative problems are manifested in different life situations. If the level of so-called situational anxiety proves to be high, then, apparently, the communicative difficulties of the client arise only in certain specific situations of communication with people.

4. The test for aggressiveness (modification of the famous test Rosenzweig).

This test is also intended for teenagers and adults. By the level of aggressiveness of a person, established with the help of this test, one can judge whether he has problems of a communicative nature. If the aggressiveness of this person is high enough, then he almost certainly has such problems.

5. A specific character of the communicative problems of the adult client can also be judged by his answers to the personal questionnaire of A. T. Gersild2. In particular, the customer's answers to the following questions of this test may be useful, in particular: 5, 8, 14, 15, 19, 20, 23, 24, 25, 30, 32, 34.

6. If a psychologist-consultant had an assumption that an adult client lacks any significant communicative personality traits, then it can be practically checked with the help of the following methods: a test for optimism, an objectivity test in relation to people, an independence test, a test for a search for a way out of difficult life situations, an affiliation test, a leader quality test, a leadership effectiveness test.

Note, however, that all the mentioned methods do not give absolutely accurate and exhaustive information about the nature of communicative problems available to the client. They only confirm or disprove the results of the preliminary interview conducted by the counseling psychologist with the client, as well as the conclusions made on the basis of direct observation of his behavior during the consultation.
