Functionalist discord and symbolic perspectives on education

The basis of today's theoretical perspectives provides sociologists with a philosophical position for requesting certain sorts of questions about contemporary society and the individuals who occupy it. The three most important perspectives are functionalist, issue, and interactionist. These three ideas are very in accordance with education and the whole learning process. These different perspectives allow sociologists the ability to explain how society affects people and their actions. Each perspective distinctively conceptualizes society, communal forces, and individuals behavior.

The functionalist point of view, also known as functionalism, states that each aspect of culture is interdependent and contributes to society's functioning as a whole. The government, or talk about, provides education for the children of the family, which pays taxes which the state will depend to keep itself jogging. Mead (1863-1931) created this perspective to American sociology in the 1920s.

According to the symbolic interactionist point of view, people attach meanings to symbols, and then they act according to their subjective interpretation of these symbols. Critics claim that the symbolic interactionist point of view neglects the macro degree of social interpretation or the "big picture. " In other words, symbolic interactionists may skip the greater issues of society by concentrating too tightly on the "trees" or how big is the precious stone in the wedding ring as opposed to the "forest" or the grade of the matrimony. The point of view also gets criticism for slighting the effect of social forces and institutions on individual interactions.

All of these perspectives have valid items as well as constructive criticism that holds value. The one perspective that sticks out to me is the discord perspective; to me this perspective is real. The discord perspective targets the negative, conflicted, and ever-changing mother nature of contemporary society. With this being said the discord perspective can even be viewed in a positive light.
